The reading for this activity was a very enlightening and informative one, it focal point was developmental psychology. I was familiar with some of the material from college while some was useful information that I could utilize in my current teaching profession.

Teachers must therefore constantly familiarize themselves with the various strategies and theories related to how students adapt and change over time whether through their personalities, their physical development cognitive or their language development. Teachers must ensure that they utilize developmentally and individually suitable strategies that take in to account their students learning needs, interest, styles abilities so that their students can reach their full potential.

My assignment was based on the application of two learning theories in my classroom, also it included three of Day and Baskett’s ten guidelines from my teaching experience ,the assignment also look at my most successful moments in teaching and the factors that contribute to these moments finally it looked at one factor presented in the module that  pertains to ICT integration I can that I can apply to my classroom.   Before attempting this assignment I read it on numerous occasions to get the essence.   This assignment was ok in terms of the tasks I had to accomplish and I completed my draft in due time but time almost elapsed with the submission of my assignment to the assessor.  Thank God I beat the clock in time.

The Powerful lesson about Operant Conditioning that I have learned from the reading is that both humans and animals are active or operant in their surroundings.  It was discovered that Students are likely to do display behaviours more frequently when the behaviour is praised or reinforced.   

Sometimes we observed students displaying certain behaviours and we wonder what is happening, and in most cases it boils down to the home, in these cases it is our duty and responsibility to divert students to more acceptable alternative behaviour through positive reinforcement example token and stamps.  When the students with behavioural problem see the other students are being rewarded for behaving themselves or doing good they too will want to be rewarded.

If on the other hand you take away some time from students break of lunch period for misbehaving this will reduce the chances of that student misbehaving.

In Grade K  a  now serving up behaviour chart have significantly improved students behaviour  the three behaviours  served are sweet, sour and bitter those students who remained on sweet usually are reward while those on sour are warned and those who move unto to bitter are punish so those behaviour  would be  repeated.

So it is pivotal that the role models display behaviour for which there is positive reinforcement so that the  behaviour can repeated, and that which is punished is less likely  to be repeated or the occurrences of that behaviour will be reduced.

Module 1 Activity 3: Social Cognitive Theory

The activity was a very good one for me I learned some new information while some the information was from my previous Knowledge.

The social learning theory states that people learn within a social context.  It also states the individual learn by what they see or observed.   In this theory emphasis is place on the imitations of role models. The models are a vital source for learning behavior or for achieving behavior modification in an institutionalized context.

Some of the most powerful lessons learn from this reading are as follows

1.    The most significant way, in which Students acquire new behaviours whether good or bad, is basically by imitating, copying or modeling others.

2.    Also media such as the television can also influence or contribute the behaviours students display.

3.    Students copy more behaviors that the see others get praise for so that they themselves would be praise also.

4.    It is important for us to remember the influence models have on learners’ behaviour. In the case of this theory, a model is anyone whose behaviour may be copied or imitated by others.

There are four cognitive processes to think about when we break observational learning down into its parts. These cognitive processes are:

1. Attention
2. Retention
3. Production
4. Motivation

After this reading I am definitely going to be more observant with my learners and also be more  cognizant of the fact that my learners will observe what behavior are being displayed and it is my duty to reinforce positive behaviours and  eradicate negatives behaviours.

I had an enlightening and rewarding experience interacting with the readings for this activity. Reference was made comparing man versus.  When  a computer obtains data it then process it then output in a form we can understand then stores the process information in it memory, on the other hand man  interacts with their environment then adjust to the demands of their environment  then store information  in memory. Two vital concepts associated with Jean Piaget work is Accommodation which is the process by which individual modify their existing schemata in order to incorporate or adapt to new experiences.

Assimilation on the other hand is the process by which children interpret new experiences and integrate into existing schemata. Every learner must recognize how they learn in order to promote and develop higher order thinking skills such as critical thinking, creative thinking and problem solving.  The teacher role is to help student recognize their abilities by making them partners in the learning process and take responsibility for their own learning. In order to be effective in their learning students need to be able to analyze the learning situation, formulate a learning plan, skillfully implement appropriate learning tactics, regularly monitor their progress, and modify the things that do not work. In addition, student need to know why the above steps are necessary, when each should be carried out, and how prepared they are to execute these steps. Students have to be careful observers in the learning process in order to succeed at what they do.

The stages of the Information Processing Module develop Atkinson are as follows:

1.     Environmental Stimuli are the things we observe in our surroundings with the use of our senses.

2.     Sensory Register (SR) is the second stage in the module where information is recorded for less than half a minute. For e.g. if you are looking at the television and your mom notifies you the neighbour is calling you focus on the new incoming information.

3.     Short Term Memory store information for few seconds then after that forget it. E.g. looking at a car licence plate that passed previously on the road after you forget what the number were.

4.      Long Term Memory (LTM) for information to be transferred to long term memory it needs to be linked to previous knowledge or something you already know.

 When doing the self activity I draw the boat on the 10 cent coins and I was able to remember it because of my previous experiences with  the concept money  since I  use money on a daily basis and it  forms  part of my long term memory I just need stimulus to activate it.

In completing number two of the self activity I mange to retain the first ten letters in my short term memory due to fact no meaning was added to it I learn it by route and after them I forget them.

When completing number three the words were already familiar to me term memory just tap prior knowledge and activate Long term memory

I was asked in the self activity to examine my on learning strategies by commenting and completing the three tasks given.  My comments are given below.

After looking at the other three tasks the Information Processing Model is very effective and demonstrate how students learn and the stages involved. As teachers we must ensure we collaborate with students in the learning process and use more centered approaches in the delivery of our content.

This activity is very was very beneficial to me.

This activity posed a bit of challenge to me even though I am familiar with unit planning. At first the assignment was a bit confusing, and steps were taken to revise it.  

The second version was a bit easier.  I worked tirelessly to complete this assignment and I hope and trust  my hard work will pay off in the end.

Activity 8 Reflection

This activity did not require me to complete any assign task but instead just a brief reading which provide some beneficial information to take into consideration before starting Assignment three. The reading looked at points to consider when developing unit plan, it also look at assessment standards these standard paved the way for Assignment three. This was very useful activity.
